Volunteer

Please email Robert, Senior Development Officer for Volunteering, for more information on volunteer opportunities and free events, or call him on 0131 220 9738.

Planning Aid for Scotland has achieved Investing in Volunteers status. The standard enables us to review our volunteer management and demonstrates our commitment to volunteering.

What do I get by volunteering with PAS?

Volunteers are the foundation of Planning Aid for Scotland (PAS) and are at the centre of all our work. We run regular volunteer induction evenings to make you feel welcome. We value and invest in our volunteers and provide opportunities, such as free training, for your Continuing Professional Development (CPD). Most volunteers are members of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI) and they are based in all parts of Scotland. It's helpful if you can commit to a certain amount of time but we make sure that being a volunteer is flexible and we respect your decision to take time off, or to finish volunteering, if circumstances change.

If you are a planning professional volunteer you can:

  • Directly engage with people in communities to inform your work and increase your value to your employer
  • Access a wide range of FREE training and information events. See the Events page (colour coded green)
  • Sign up for the exclusive, FREE weekly or daily planning news and events bulletin
  • Learn new skills to enter or move up in the job market and improve your professional development (CPD)
  • Network with others from across Scotland, learn from other places and make new friends
  • Use your skills and knowledge and give something back to the community
  • Improve your health and well-being

How can I get involved?

There are three main routes: the advice service, training or mentoring. If you are a fully qualified planner, with MRTPI, you can do any of these, even with just an hour to spare. If you are a student, Licentiate or Associate member of the RTPI you can get involved in training in the community. There are sometimes opportunities working on PAS research projects or with other areas of our work.

What's the catch?

There isn't one! There's also our leaflet describing what we do and how to get involved. We can post you leaflets to distribute to colleagues and friends, let us know how many you need. Email Robert with any questions, call him on 0131 220 9738 or simply fill out the form below. Enjoy your volunteering!
